Maintaining gym engagement in residential developments is key to the success of any leisure facility. At motive8 not only do our gym management services include inductions, health and safety, Personal Training and marketing, we also offer a host of different activities and events for our residential residents. These include Charity challenge events, Family fun days, National Fitness celebration events and Fitness challenge events, for all members to get involved in.
This Autumn we have worked with Anastasia Davies, our athlete ambassador from our ‘Empowering Performance’ initiative to share some ‘top tips on staying motivated during the festive period’. Anastasia, who we have worked with, to create a fitness challenge with interactive leader board for our members, believes focussing on ‘micro goals’ is a good way to keep you motivated during the Christmas period. When goals are broken down into smaller bites, an overwhelming challenge becomes achievable. Finding the joy in small wins could be the key to keeping you motivated.

Several of our Personal Trainers across our residential sites from London to Manchester have also shared their top tips to stay motivated this festive period:
Fitness classes are a fail-safe way to keep you engaged. Deansgate Personal Trainer, Matty, explains that classes are a great way to stay accountable, while also creating loose structure to your week, which is especially helpful as we get deeper into Christmas celebrations. motive8 offer an array of fitness classes to suit the needs of every member – aside from the commitment of scheduling a class, the extra encouragement from the instructor once you’re there always helps with motivation.
Buddy up! Maxwell Abduah, Personal Trainer at Crown Street, believes having a partner to hold you accountable is the best way to stay committed. Going to the gym with another motive8 member can lead to improved consistency and therefore more motivation to simply turn up, which is often the hardest part!

Walking, commonly one of the most underrated forms of exercise, is how Emily Forbes, (Personal Trainer at Marshall Court) and Stefano Talio, (Gym & Spa Fitness Manager at Beaufort Park) plan to stay motivated this Christmas. “It is an accessible form of exercise for most people and can be done nearly anywhere. Even a 5-minute walk can boost our energy and mental capacity.” Starting your day with a mindful walk can make all the difference to your motivation for the rest of the day.
Finally, it’s not all about workouts, “A great way to stay active and keep in a routine during the holiday season is to spend 5-10 minutes of your day going through a mobility and stretching routine”, suggests Fitness Services Manager, Filip Kozlowski. A little movement is better than no movement, some simple mobility and stretching exercises means activity doesn’t need to stop completely during the festive period.

With this in mind, motive8 offer many other fitness and wellbeing services that will help to keep residents at their managed sites motivated over this period. These services include personal training, workout programming, specialist injury rehabilitation guidance, swimming lessons and fitness classes. Beyond this, other complementary services that are sometimes provided can include beauty and spa experiences, and even sourcing and providing branded products for users to buy.
In summary, implementing ways to keep members engaged and motivated holds just as much value as other elements of a seamlessly working gym. An engaged gym and spa membership is the best membership, and makes it more fun for all involved.
