In honour of International Women’s Day 2021 (IWD), we are choosing to celebrate the inspirational women in the motive8 community.
From finding out about their role models to their career advice tips, we spoke with Ashley Wright, Head of Gym and Spa Management and Jenny Cromack, Director at motive8 North about all things IWD:
Can you tell us about a female role model who has inspired you?
Ashley: I feel very lucky to be surrounded by such strong, inspirational women but I have to say my ultimate female role model is my mum. Her sheer strength and positive outlook on life is truly inspirational and to see the impact she has on all that know her is something I am forever proud of.
Jen: Jessica Ennis – what a legend! I loved the amount of dedication and determination she had to get to the top. I’m also inspired by many of my personal training clients who are successful business women – their determination to succeed inspires me to do the same.
“International Women’s day is a chance to celebrate each other’s success and focus on the positive work that those around us are achieving.”
What does International Women’s Day mean to you?
Jen: I think International Women’s Day is a great opportunity to celebrate women’s achievements especially in areas such as sports where women can sit in the shadows of male-dominated sports.
Ashley: To me, International Women’s day is a chance to celebrate each other’s success and focus on the positive work that those around us are achieving.
What advice would you give to women considering a career in your field?
Ashley: My advice for any women considering a career in fitness/fitness management would be to never stop learning. I love working in an industry that is constantly evolving with so many different avenues to explore.
Jen: Go for it, I’m always surprised by the lack of females applicants when we advertise for Personal Trainers. When I landed my first role as a PT, I was the only female PT in the fitness team. This was great for creating my own niche and market but I could also hold my own in expertise and knowledge against the boys…after all, I’m not sure that brain power is gender specific so be confident you’re as good as all of the male PTs out there if not better!
